Introduction
General Vezax is the twelfth boss encounter in Ulduar. He can be found in the Descent into Madness guarding the Prison of Yogg-Saron. Mana-based classes will have to deal with a lock on their regen, but will be able to restore it by destroying crystals that will drop a residue on the floor to restore it.

General Vezax Abilities
8.3 million HP, melees for roughly 15-20k on plate. General Vezax is immune to taunt.

- Shadow Crash - Fires a shadow missile at a target, dealing 11310 to 12690 Shadow damage to all enemies near the impact point and knocking them away. After impact, leaves an energy field that lingers for 20 sec, increasing magical damage dealt by 100%, increasing casting speed by 100%, reducing healing done by 75%, and reducing mana costs by 70%.

- Searing Flames - Deals 13875 to 16125 Fire damage to all enemies within 100 yards, superheating their armor and reducing its ability to protect them by 75% for 10 sec. (2 sec cast time, interruptable)

- Surge of Darkness - Empowers the caster with dark might, increasing physical damage by 100% but reducing movement speed by 55%, for 10 sec. (Self buff on Vezax, you have to kite him around the room while the buff is up, lasts 10 seconds)

- Mark of the Faceless - Inflicts an ancient malediction on a target, siphoning 5000 health every 1 sec. from enemies near the target, for 10 sec. Heals General Vezax for a large amount.

- Aura of Despair - Prevents mana regeneration throughout the fight by all means, except for Judgments of the Wise, Spiritual Attunement, Aspect of the Viper, and Shamanistic Rage. Note that unlike the Play Test Realm version of this encounter Mana Potions and active abilities such as Evocation and Life Tap will not function.

- Saronite Vapors - Periodically throughout the fight green crystals named, “Saronite Vapors” will float around the room; each crystal has ~12,600 health. When destroyed, one of these crystals will drop a green puddle on the ground. When a player stands in this puddle the player will take Shadow Damage (resistible) and will regenerate mana. A player standing in this puddle will gain a debuff named “Saronite Vapors” which will stack every two seconds.
Each stack will increase the amount of damage taken and mana regenerated according to the following:
1 Stack 100 Mana 200 Damage
2 Stacks 200 Mana 400 Damage
3 Stacks 400 Mana 800 Damage
4 Stacks 800 Mana 1,600 Damage
5 Stacks 1,600 Mana 3,200 Damage
6 Stacks 3,200 Mana 6,400 Damage
7 Stacks 6,400 Mana 12,800 Damage
8 Stacks 12,800 Mana 25,600 Damage
No known limit.

The Fight

Positioning
Boss Strategy Vesax-10

The Pull
For this fight, your main tank will run in and start building threat on General Vezax immediately. Have your hunters and rogues use Misdirection and Tricks of the Trade to allow your raid to DPS the boss as much as possible as soon as possible.

The Fight
The fight for General Vezax, while technically simple, does require people to focus enough to pull off the execution. As well as this, the mana users need to be careful with how they use their mana due to the Aura of Despair. They need to act accordingly by carefully using the Saronite Vapours and consumables such as Mana Potions to counteract the effect.

Once your main tank has picked General Vezax up and positioned him, the rest of the raid can start to DPS the boss. It is however, massively important that melee stand strictly behind the boss at all times. General Vezax hits so hard that a single parry can instantly kill your tank.

The melee have one very important job to do whilst doing DPS, and that is to interrupt the Searing Flames casts. You will require 2 people who are hit capped to set up a rotation so that they interrupt alternating casts. Failing to interrupt this ability, even once, will wipe the raid.

The rest of the ranged classes will need to spread out to start with and wait for the first Shadow Crash. When it is cast, they need to look where it is flying to and move out of the way. When it lands, a black spot will be left on the ground and nearby ranged players can move into it to gain a DPS buff. It is, however, important not to have too many people group up on that spot, because having a large group of people makes the likelihood of having another Shadow Crash land in the same place higher, and also means that Mark of the Faceless could hit a lot of people in that area at once. By having a few people at a time step into the buff, it reduces the amount of collateral damage should this happen. It should also be noted that people who get hit by the Shadow Crash should not run into it until they are healed up, as healing a player up through a 75% healing debuff is highly inefficient.

This routine will continue until General Vezax starts casting Surge of Darkness. At this point the main tank will need to run as fast as he can away from General Vezax, who will now be slowed to 55%. While Surge of Darkness is up, the boss will one-hit-kill anyone he hits. Your interrupters need to stay with General Vezax (which is easily done as he moves so slowly) to ensure that if he casts a Searing Flames, it is interrupted. After Surge Of Darkness ends, the tank will continue to tank the boss as normal and the routine continues of interrupting the Searing Flames, and avoiding and then using the Shadow Crashes.

There are 2 final aspects to this phase. These involve the Saronite Crystals and Mark of the Faceless (which is not in the 10 man version). If, at any point, a member of the raid gets low on mana, they can kill a Saronite Crystal which will place a green cloud on the floor. This cloud which will convert 1000HP to 1000 mana per second of any raid member who is stood in it. If someone is low on HP near the Saronite Crystal you are killing, be sure to warn them so they won't get hit by the green cloud and die unintentionally.

Finally the Mark of the Faceless needs to be avoided. This is done simply by whoever gets the debuff moving to a part of the room where nobody is stood. Due to the size of the room, there is no lack of space. If someone is grouped up and gains Mark of the Faceless, it is important that they move immediately to a free area, as standing there for a prolonged period will not only heal General Vezax for huge amounts, but will also put unnecessary strain on your healers having to heal 5000 damage per second to anyone close.

If you are not attempting the hard mode, this will repeat until he dies.
